May 31/25

It's hard to believe that June 1st is tomorrow!  This year is quickly coming to an end but Div. 13 still has lots of exciting things happening and lots to learn.  If possible please continue to encourage your child to read daily and keep your bedtime routines, this will help this last month go smoothly.

Scientists this week, Devon made it rain with a very cool experiment, Rodeen demonstrated how a needle floats but does not when soap is added, Addison created a Coke and Mento explosion, Frazer showed us when skittles are put in water they  loose their colour and actually dissolve,  Liyana's experiment was also cool she poked pencils into a bag fill of water without it leaking! Div. 13 is also growing some alfalfa seeds and planted sunflower seeds this week.  Each child brought home their sunflower pot on Wednesday, please water and watch these grow, they should start to sprout in about 2 weeks. I'd love to see some pictures once they are sunflower plants!

Please practice Reader's Workshop books this weekend as students will be presenting these, starting Monday.

Rev's Bowling is on Wednesday, June 4th.  Please be sure to sign up, unfortunately we are short drivers. If you are able to help out please let me know (even drop off and come back to pick up that would be very helpful or drive your own child).   Mrs. Sirvoyak might have some extra spots so I'll let you know as soon as possible but hopefully we won't need to cancel. Our memory book fee is also due.  Please either pay online or send in cash for either of these (if cash please send in a labelled ziplock bag or an envelope).  Thank you!

Upcoming Dates:

***June 4th - Rev's Bowling

***June 13th - Fun Day!

***Teddy Bear Picnic and Year End Celebration date will be determined later (depending on weather)

***June 25th - Last day of school for students

May 23/25

Science Alive Presentation on Thursday was fantastic!  Div. 13 learned about the different states of matter, Solid, Liquid and Gas. They made catepolts which they brought home and saw a baking soda rocket which Stellar also did on Friday for his Scientist so that was a great review.

In these pictures they are pretending to be different types of matter!
Catepolts - they loved making and using these!

For our other science project this week Vienna showed us Magic Milk, Shaienne made Oobleck, Gaige created a neat pump demonstrating air pressure and continuous flow.

Our bowling field trip to Rev's for Wednesday, June 4th please sign up as soon as possible and let me know if you're available to drive as we still need several.  Our memory book fee is also due.  Please either pay online or send in cash for either of these (if cash please send in a labelled ziplock bag or an envelope).  Thank you!

May 16/25

Welcome to your May long weekend (unfortunately the rain has also arrived)!
We have two impressive bulletin boards... our rainy day art and our Starbooks!

Our scientists this week have gone very well.  Mila demonstrated that toothpaste definitely does work and makes a difference and Auckie made elephant toothpaste!  Thanks for your support with this project the students are very excited to do these experiments.

Fairview has planned a Book Swap! We are hoping this will increase excitement for reading in our school.  This week please send in 1-5 gently used books; no rips, covers on, no drawing, no pages missing, no activity/colouring/sticker/board books. Please try to send books that are not years below your child’s reading ability, or else our older students will not have a good selection of age-appropriate books to choose from. Students can bring in up to 5 gently used books and exchange on May 27th however many they bring in for new to them book(s)!   If you send extra books, they can be donated to students who did not bring any.

We have now finished our spelling program, but Spelling City (link under useful links at the side of this post) is still available and your children would benefit from continuing to practise these phonetic patterns and words to help them develop their spelling strategies and skills.  I will be sending their spelling dustangs home next week, please keep them at home.

Our field trip to Maple Ridge Park is supposed to be on Friday, May 23rd but we still do not have enough drivers (short 7 spots) so we probably need to cancel.  If anyone is available to drive (even just to drop off and pick up) please let me know asap.  I will make the decision on Tuesday morning.

Our bowling field trip to Rev's for Wednesday, June 4th is also now on the portal please sign up as soon as possible and let me know if you're available to drive.  Our memory book fee is also due.  Please either pay online or send in cash for either of these (if cash please send in a labelled ziplock bag or an envelope).  Thank you!

Body Presention:  Div. 12 & 13 did a great job of their body presentation at the assembly!

Most students have brought home their body apron and their brain hats, please have them share all that they have learned!  If you'd like to keep the brain hat you can send it back and I'll add it to their memory books, I had wanted them to review and explain the different parts to you but then realized it would be a good keepsake.

Div. 13's Starbooks presentations were a great success.  All your children did an amazing job and were also a great audience for their peers, thanks for your support with this project.

Scientist of the Week starts on Tuesday.  Your child's day is listed on the information sheet, they should complete the experiment sheet at home and bring it on their special day.  If you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out.  I've also disccssed with the class that there may be repeats of some experiments but that is totally fine as we'll still be learning!

May 23th Maple Ridge Park - please sign up, we are currently short drivers so may have to cancel

***Memory Book fee is also up on the portal please either pay online or send $15 cash in a labelled ziplock

***May 20-23 - Book swap collection - students can bring in slightly used books
