Important Final Information for Div. 13's Last Few Days...

We do have lots to finish up these last few days so we will be busy.

Planners, Poetry, inside shoes and extra clothes were all sent home today.  Please help your child clean out their backpacks as these do not have to come back to school (several students still have spelling please keep these at home too).  Book bags and any other classroom books should be returned Monday or Tuesday.  Please send in an extra bag on Monday so that your child can bring home all their supplies.

Last Day of School is a 1/2 day (12:00 dismissal) but hopefully everyone will still be attending.  That is when students will get their memory books! If you know your child will not be attending please let me know and we can make alternate arrangements.

The Teddy Bear Picnic was a success!  Thanks to the families that sent the delicious snacks, they devoured it and loved just playing with their stuffies and friends in the forest!

Div. 13's Scientist this week was Avayah, she showed the class how coca-cola cleans dirty pennies!  They were very shiny after 24 hours so left more dirty pennies in both water and coco-cola over the weekend to see what happens!  I also missed Gavin from earlier in May, he demonstrated how static electricity from a balloon after being rubbed on his hair will make  Pepper Dance!  Thanks to all families for supporting our Scientist projects they have all been an exciting highlight of the year!

Loose Parts Story Creations!  The students had a choice of working with a classmate or independently.  It was amazing to see what they made, they then told their stories and are currently still writing them!

After reading a book called Fortunately, all students in Div. 13 wrote their own Fortunately story following the same pattern.  They edited, illustrated and I published them.  They have been writing all year and are becoming good authors.  They now have an apple on the class Author's Tree!

                                                            More Exploration Fun!!

June 13/25

It sad and hard to believe we only have one full week of school left!

As part of our nutrition unit Div. 12 & 13 made ICE CREAM!

It turned out so good!  Students commented, "Way better than the store!"

Friday the 13th was a lucky one at Fairview!  Fun Day was the BEST!  Div. 13 won the Sportsmanship Award, the students were very supportive of their classmates!  Good work! Thanks to the PAC for the making this day possible and to all the parents who helped out with this special event.

Tug of War Against Div. 14!

For our Scientists this week Uros demonstrated how a candle will go out when covered with a glass and the water will raise up the glass due to the lack of oxygen changing the air pressure. Umais made a Lemon Volcano showing us how the acid from a lemon reacts when baking soda is added.

Please practise your child's poem at home as they will be presenting these to the class.  They should be bringing  their poetry back and forth to school each day.

Parent Volunteers Needed:  Thanks to those parents who have already emailed saying they could help but if anyone else can volunteer please let me know.   I need help with our memory books (in the school, time can be flexible) and washing manipulative (those you could take home).  Thanks so much, I always try to wash every bin of building and math objects at the end of the year and this is a huge job.

Year End Celebration-(Teddy Bear Picnic): Div. 12, Div.13, and Div. 14 will be enjoying time outside together between recess and lunch. The Teddy Bear Picnic is tentatively scheduled for Friday June 20th, weather dependant possibly Thursday, June 19th!  (The weather forecast keeps changing so I will confirm on Monday). If needed we will move it inside but we really hope it works for outside. Students can bring a blanket and teddy bear from home.  Thank you to the following families that will be bring snacks that day:
Fruit Plate -  Liyana, Cheese crackers or small sandwiches -  Mila, Sweet Treat - Avayah,  Popcorn/chips or pretzels - Annie,  Other -  Ajlin

Please check your home for classroom books, I often get several books that have been hidden under beds, couches etc.  Last day for taking out classroom books and book bags will be Thursday.

I will be providing a pizza lunch on Monday, June 23rd, I will be purchasing enough for 2 pieces each so you please still send a regular snack and maybe a little more lunch if your child is a larger eater.

Wednesday, June 25 - Last Day of school for students - Early Dismissal 12:00. Students will be bringing their memory books home that day.  Please let me know if your child will not be at school on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday so I can make sure they get all their belongings.

Please note:  All Primary Students next year do not need to buy SCHOOL SUPPLIES. Instead parents just make a payment once they are in their new class. Grade 4's however will need to purchase their own supplies.

June 6/25

Thanks to all the parents who drove to Rev's Bowling without your help this field trip would not have been possible. Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves and many thought that they got better at bowling!

Scientists this week were Walter, Michael, Ajlin, Annie, and Hussain.  We learned the density of different liquids and how they separate into layers and some objects will sink and some float, that static electricity can bend water, Rainbow Rain discovering that mineral oil and water never mix and that the food colouring bubbles sunk to the bottom and looked like rain, Magic Pepper when you touch your finger with soap on it the pepper runs away,  and raisins will dance (move up and down) when put in a carbonated drink.

In Math we have been focusing on multiplication and time.  Many were having difficulty telling time especially times like 7:40 or 10:55 so Div. 13 made their own clocks now they are able to practise these at home.  Analog clocks are challenging but a skill that everyone needs!

In Music your children have been learning to play the ukulele! This week they recorded a video which I will include in an email.  Fairview is so lucky to have such a talented music teacher, thanks Dr. Saul!

These next two rounds of Reader's Workshop all the students have or will be getting poems.  Please practise these at home as they will be presenting these to the class.  They will be bring their poetry back and forth to school each day.

Help Needed:  If any parents are available to come in to help with our memory books please send me an email.  Time can be flexible.

Could everyone please either pay online for the memory book or send $15 in a labelled ziplock bag as soon as possible.  Thanks!

The class is getting excited for Fun Day next Friday, June 13th. Please dress your child in comfortable clothing (in their colour) and apply sunscreen before school. They will have the opportunity throughout the day to reapply it. Also please send your child to school with a water bottle labelled with their name, and it is recommended to send a hat.  The PAC will announce 3 winners:  Best Dressed Team, Most Spirit, and Best Sportsmanship.
