October 27/24

Interim reports will be coming home on Tuesday.  This is a combination of their self assessment as well as my evaluation as to how they are doing at school at this time. This is not an academic report as this will be discussed in detail at our conferences in December.  If you have any specific questions please email me.

Our Halloween Celebration will be on Thursday, Oct. 31st in the morning (time still to be determined).   Students are encouraged to come in costume on Halloween but please remember costumes should be appropriate, easy to take off and on as they will be going outside for recess/lunch and we wouldn't want them to be ruined for trick or treating.  Thanks to these families for providing our snacks and goodies. Fruit Plate - Frazer, Veggie Plate - Vienna, Cheese/Crackers or small sandwiches - Auckie,
Sweet Treat - Gaige,  Popcorn/chips or pretzels - Stellar,  Other - Uros

November is Family Literacy month.  On Oct. 30th you will be receiving information and a calendar for Fairview's  Club RED (Read Every Day!) Please read thoroughly and keep your child's reading calendar in a visual place like the fridge or in their planner so you can record their daily reading.  Our goal is that every student in Div 13 become a Club RED member!  Our theme this year is 'Reading Takes You On Great Adventures!' Please encourage your child to get a book template to complete for every book that they read or at least their best ones!

Pajama Day is on Friday, November 1st.  Students are welcome to wear their pajamas and bring a stuffie! We will still be doing Family Reading!  This is our first day of Club RED so we'll also have our first hallway reading, the day after Halloween what could be finer than to wear pj's and cuddle up and READ!

Vienna, Gavin, Shaienne and Rodeen all did amazing presentations for their VIP's this week.  All were so interesting and well done, it so nice to learn more about our classmates. Please remember to discuss why they are an important person. Also if you'd like to send in a family traditional snack the day your child's presents, I'm sure it would be enjoyed. We have no allergies or dietary restrictions in our class this year.

Next week an extra book (with a post-it) will start to come home.  Each day I work with a different group so they will come home staggered for the next 2 weeks.  When your child brings their book please have them practise reading it as in a couple of weeks they will be presenting it with their group to the class.  Thanks for your help with this.

Fairview's Terry Fox run was a success!

Mila did an amazing job speaking both at the assembly and to our class, her presentation was very powerful!  Donations will still be accepted next week, please send in cash donations or online donations can be made at https://schools.terryfox.ca/73520

*Div. 13 and our buddy class are organizing Fairview's Food Drive for Friends in Need.  Please bring in non-perishable foods Oct. 2 - Oct. 9th. We really hope to make a difference to those who are not as fortunate as us!  We made posters on Friday to put on the boxes and throughout the school, Div. 13 will also be doing daily announcements encouraging Fariview to help their comunity.

More Exploration Fun!

Div. 13 are starting to settle into our classroom routines.  Thank you for helping your child to return their planners daily in their plastic bags and their Poetry, Songs, Math Games and More duotangs on Mondays. Every Monday is our library book exchange, student are able to keep them home for one week.  Please use the large ziplock at all times to protect the book.

Thanks to everyone who has paid the school supply and planner fees, and for filling out the consent forms on the parent portal.  If you have not done these things please do so asap.  Also if you haven't had an opportunity to sign up for one of our snack celebrations, please try to do so this week, or if you can't I will discuss it with your child.  Thanks everyone for your support with this, as soon as it is finalized I will post it on the page above plus send reminders.

Our Name Boggle is going very well.  The students are becoming more skilled at creating lots of words with each special helper's names.  I'd also like to thank families for continuing this activity at home and then returning them. Everyone has found more words and as a class we are realizing that some names/letters can definitely make more words and those with a s then you can make words plural!

Thanks to Gavin's mom who has agreed to provide and cut the wood for our Thanksgiving craft.  If Mrs. Sirovyak's class doesn't have a volunteer I will reach out to one of you that also volunteered.  Thanks for your support with this.

Saturday, September 14, 2024

Friday the 13th!

Div. 13 has had a busy first week; getting to know each other, learning expectations and also getting organized.  Thanks to all of you that sent back forms and sent in school supply money.   If you haven't had a chance yet please send in the GREEN Getting Acquainted Form, the BLUE verification form as soon as possible.  This year there is a contest for the class that returns all the verification form the fastest, so please send these in and maybe Div. 13 will win a price!  Also if possible please ensure you fill out all the consent forms on the parent portal and send in inside shoes/running shoes asap (especially with our change in the weather!)

Thanks to everyone that was able to come for Family Reading it was wonderful to see so many parents.  I understand that many of you have to be at work and are unable to attend or can only come occasionally, please be assured that your child can always join another parent.

Each morning we do Name Boggle, finding as many words that can be made out of our special helper's name. This is an excellent literacy activity and the students are already very good at it.  When it is your child's special helper day they will bring their sheet home, if you could help them to find even more words that would be great. Take the time you need but please return as they like to share their results with their classmates and we will keep them for their memory books.  I hope you enjoy this family activity, it definitely gets your brain working and helps the students with rhyming, reading and writing skills!Name Boggle.
