Planners - please be checking these daily, sign and check the plastic pouch for notices.

Book Bags should be coming back to school daily.  Please help your child remember this routine.  Also we just started our new Reader's Workshop stations so students have just started to get their new books which we indicate with a post it.

November 7/24

Another busy week.  Thanks to Stellar's mom for helping out our Remembrance Day art project.  Hopefully you can take a look tomorrow at Family Reading.  Please note that tomorrow for family reading, you have the option of going into the halls, the library or the multi-purpose room to read with your child.   Remember tomorrow is FACT FRIDAY, so students are encouraged to bring in their favourite non-fiction books.                                                                                                                                            Every child will receive a poppy for the assembly tomorrow.  Please send in poppy donations for our veterans.  This week we have discussed why we have Remembrance Day, what veterans are and the importance of peace.

Book bags came home today, please read over the letter and remember that these need to come back daily.

Skating - Please sign up as soon as possible and send in the money for skates and helmets.  We currently are still short drivers, so if any of you can help out please let me know. Mrs. Sirovyak has a few extra spots so we may not have to cancel.  I will confirm our field trip on Wednesday,

Our VIP this week were Annie, Ajlin, Walter and Devon.  All had excellent posters and presentations.  It's neat to hear the students making connections with their peers, eg) who likes to cook, draw or even their heritage.  Thanks to Walter's family for the delicious Boterkoek, another yummy dutch cake!

Div. 13 was very excited when Dan from Maple Ridge Recycling came and did a workshop on how paper is made.  We created pumpkins or jack-o-lanterns out of reycled paper which we blended into pulp.

Thanks to Frazer, Vienna, Auckie, Gaige , Stellar and Uros for providing the snacks and goodies for our Halloween Celebration.  Our primary assembly went well and Dr. Saul's Ghostbuster flash mob was a huge success!

Div. 13 did some cool math and art projects...

Club RED started Nov. 1st,  hopefully everyone has the special calendar in a visible spot at home or in the front of their planner.  Every day your child reads you need to inital that date on these calendars and your child can colour them in if they choose.  Students can also fill out books to add to our special bulletin board for any books that they have enjoyed.

Our Reader's Workshop presentations are going very well.  Thanks for your support practising these books (the one with a post-it) at home, please also remind your child these should be coming to school daily so they can practise and have them for their presentations.

October 27/24

Interim reports will be coming home on Tuesday.  This is a combination of their self assessment as well as my evaluation as to how they are doing at school at this time. This is not an academic report as this will be discussed in detail at our conferences in December.  If you have any specific questions please email me.

Our Halloween Celebration will be on Thursday, Oct. 31st in the morning (time still to be determined).   Students are encouraged to come in costume on Halloween but please remember costumes should be appropriate, easy to take off and on as they will be going outside for recess/lunch and we wouldn't want them to be ruined for trick or treating.  Thanks to these families for providing our snacks and goodies. Fruit Plate - Frazer, Veggie Plate - Vienna, Cheese/Crackers or small sandwiches - Auckie,
Sweet Treat - Gaige,  Popcorn/chips or pretzels - Stellar,  Other - Uros

November is Family Literacy month.  On Oct. 30th you will be receiving information and a calendar for Fairview's  Club RED (Read Every Day!) Please read thoroughly and keep your child's reading calendar in a visual place like the fridge or in their planner so you can record their daily reading.  Our goal is that every student in Div 13 become a Club RED member!  Our theme this year is 'Reading Takes You On Great Adventures!' Please encourage your child to get a book template to complete for every book that they read or at least their best ones!

Pajama Day is on Friday, November 1st.  Students are welcome to wear their pajamas and bring a stuffie! We will still be doing Family Reading!  This is our first day of Club RED so we'll also have our first hallway reading, the day after Halloween what could be finer than to wear pj's and cuddle up and READ!

Vienna, Gavin, Shaienne and Rodeen all did amazing presentations for their VIP's this week.  All were so interesting and well done, it so nice to learn more about our classmates. Please remember to discuss why they are an important person. Also if you'd like to send in a family traditional snack the day your child's presents, I'm sure it would be enjoyed. We have no allergies or dietary restrictions in our class this year.

I have now added our classroom celebration list at the top of this website. Our first one is coming up soon, Halloween is on Thursday, Oct. 31st.  Thanks to the following families...                                                Fruit Plate - Frazer, Veggie Plate - Vienna, Cheese/Crackers or small sandwiches - Auckie,      Sweet Treat - Gaige, Popcorn/chips or pretzels - Stellar, Other - Uros

Div. 3 & 13 worked hard to promote and collect all the food donations that the Fairview Community sent in for the Friends in Need Food Bank.  Little people really did make a BIG DIFFERENCE, thank you with your support with this Div. 13 filled 2 bins!

This past week has been fire prevention week and we have reviewed the importance of fire safety, please review this with your families, have your child practise and memorize their address and plan your meeting spots!

A huge thank you to Gavin's mom for cutting all the wood for our Thanksgiving turkey centre pieces. All the students were so excited to bring them home!   I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your families and friends.

Next week an extra book (with a post-it) will start to come home.  Each day I work with a different group so they will come home staggered for the next 2 weeks.  When your child brings their book please have them practise reading it as in a couple of weeks they will be presenting it with their group to the class.  Thanks for your help with this.
